If you’re looking to become involved with a direct sales business, and this “I CAN’T SELL” myth is holding you back, keep reading!
Post UPDATED in 2020! No Changes or updates were needed because this information is as accurate today as it was back in 2011 when it was published!
As an Independent Scentsy Consultant/Director I feel compelled to share some common misconceptions about direct sales, specifically as related to my business.
Common Fear About Selling
One common fear some of us have about direct sales is SALES! Many think they can’t sell or they’re afraid of selling. Based on my personal experience, I don’t believe sales experience is necessary, and here’s why. I started with Scentsy in December of 2009. As a mother of three, I had never been involved in any sales other than an occasional fundraiser here and there. My primary work experience as a child care provider did not require much in the way of sales, but I have changed lots of diapers! I only joined Scentsy because I’ve always loved candles and I adore the Scentsy Flameless Candle products. I did not join with the idea of selling, but my nature, I like to share with my friends.
Share Instead of Sell!
I started sharing the Scentsy products with my friends and family and something amazing happened. The people I shared with became excited and started buying the product also. Some of them actually joined to be consultants also! The next thing I knew, I had regular customers and a team of consultants just like me. What’s even better, I’m earning income and it’s a little more than pocket change! As I said, I had no sales experience and would never try to force sell anything to anyone. With Scentsy, I’ve never had to do this. Not once! I’m having more fun than I could have imagined and my circle of friends and customers has grown, exponentially!
The Truth is, No Sales Experience is Needed
Some of the most successful consultants ever, started their business, unsure of themselves and didn’t believe they were cut out for sales of any type. At Scentsy, it’s all about sharing and relationships, not hard sell tactics. If you enjoy sharing good finds with friends and family, you have all the qualifications you need to succeed. In fact, as it’s related to Scentsy, someone with too much sales experience might hurt more than help. It’s just NOT that kind of business. The complete lack of sales pressure and the simplicity of our products are the main reasons so many Scentsy customers decide to become consultants. They find themselves enjoying a party experience instead of having to sit through a typical sales presentation, and suddenly realize, “Hey—I can do this!”
Just Share – Break the Direct Sales “Can’t Sell” Myth
If you love the product you’re offering, people feel it and there won’t be any “hard sales” necessary! Believe me when I say, most people really get excited about these lovely flameless and wickless candles. If you think this opportunity might be for you, it’s very affordable. In fact, one of the main attractions people have to Scentsy is the reasonable costs. The products are unique, well made and reasonably priced. This is as true in 2017 as it was back when this was published. There are many different styles and over 80 fragrances to choose from.
